The reply jar: texts you owe, without the guilt
The reply jar is a short list of messages you owe someone. You add a row yourself, with the person and an optional note about what they sent. Later you answer with a short suggested line and tap Replied. Nearfolk cannot see your messages, so the jar holds only what you put in.

What is the reply jar for?
An unanswered text keeps a corner of your attention busy. The longer it waits, the bigger the apology feels, and the less likely you are to send anything. The reply jar moves that open loop out of your head and into a place that waits calmly.
The jar does not nag. Rows show how long a message has been waiting in plain words, such as waiting 3 days, and that is all. There is no red badge and no overdue count.
When is the jar most useful?
It helps most when a message arrives at a bad time. You are on a train, in a meeting or tired, you read it, and you mean to answer later. A day passes, then a week, and the message becomes heavy.
Add it to the jar in ten seconds and the loop is closed for now. When you have five minutes, open the Replies tab and pick the one that feels easiest.
How do you add something to the jar?
Open the Replies tab and tap Add to the jar, or choose Add to reply jar from a person's menu. Pick the person and, if you like, write what it was about, for example 'her trip photos'.
You are adding the row by hand. iOS does not let an app read your messages, and Nearfolk does not try to. A note on the Replies screen says so directly.
If you are on the Replies tab with nobody to add, the screen says every person is either in the jar already or not added yet. Add a person first from the People tab.
- Open Replies and tap Add to the jar.
- Pick the person you owe a reply.
- Add a few words about it, if you want to.
- Tap Add to the jar. The message leaves your head.
How do you answer?
Each row has two buttons. Short reply opens the draft screen with the Reply owed occasion, where you get a line that names the delay lightly. Replied marks the row as done.
Lines are built for the real situation: you are late, you want to be kind, and you have little energy. They are short on purpose, because two lines now beat a perfect reply never. You can edit any of them before they open in Messages. See conversation starters for how the lines work.

What should you put in the jar?
Put in messages that deserve a real answer from someone you care about. Skip automatic notifications, group chats you can mute, and anything that does not need a reply. The jar is meant to stay short, and a short jar is easier to empty.
Think of it as a friendly list. A row has a name, a few words and a waiting time, and no due date.
What happens when you tap Replied?
The row leaves the jar with a small check animation. Nearfolk logs a message for that friend, and they move back toward you on the orbit. A toast confirms it.
If you decide a row does not need a reply after all, choose Remove. The app asks whether to remove it without logging a reply, so you stay in control of your history.
The Today screen shows the top two open rows from the jar, with a link to see all. When the jar is empty, it says so: 'The jar is empty'. That is the goal.
Does the jar send reminders?
Once. Two days after you add a row, Nearfolk can send one local notification that says you owe that friend a reply and that two lines is enough. It uses your daily nudge time and respects quiet hours, and you can switch it off in Me, then Notifications.
The notification is scheduled on your iPhone and goes to nobody else.
What are the free limits?
The free jar holds three open replies at a time. Reply to one, or remove one, and there is room again. Nearfolk Plus makes the jar unlimited.
Frequently asked questions
Does the reply jar scan my unread messages?
No. It cannot read your messages. You add each row yourself, so the jar only contains what you decide to put there.
What does a reply in the jar look like after I answer?
Tap Replied and the row leaves the jar. Nearfolk logs a message for that friend and moves them closer on your orbit.
How many replies can I keep in the free jar?
Three at a time on the free plan. Plus has no limit. Nothing in the jar is deleted if you are over the limit.
