Nearfolk support
This page answers common questions about Nearfolk: adding people, how the orbit and the daily three work, reminders, cards, moving to a new phone, restoring Plus and deleting your data. If you cannot find an answer, open Me, then Help, then Contact support in the app.
Coming soon to iPhone
How do I get started?
Open Nearfolk and tap Start. Add the names of three to five friends you would hate to lose touch with, tell the app roughly when you last talked, and watch the orbit assemble. Then choose whether to turn on one gentle nudge a day.
You can add more people any time from the People tab. First names are enough, and a phone number is optional.
Where is my data stored?
On your iPhone only. People, notes, dates, circles, replies and history are encrypted with a key kept in the iOS Keychain. Nearfolk has no account and no server of its own, so there is nothing to sign in to and nothing to recover from the cloud.
Before you change phones, export your data from Me, then Export my data. It saves a JSON file through the share sheet.
What is included in the free plan?
Free includes 10 people, one circle, three open replies, the first three starters for each occasion, the Sky and Paper card styles, the monthly recap, and all sharing and links. Nearfolk Plus is an optional purchase that removes those limits and adds all starters, two more card styles and the yearly recap. Prices are shown in the app by the App Store.
How do I contact support?
Open Me, then Help, then Contact support. You can also email the address shown in the app and in the privacy policy. Please include your iPhone model, iOS version and a short description of what happened. Do not send passwords or payment details.
Frequently asked questions
Does Nearfolk read my messages?
No. iOS does not allow it and Nearfolk does not try. You log moments yourself with one tap, or by tapping Message or Call inside Nearfolk.
Does it upload my contacts?
No. Pick from Contacts opens the iOS picker, which gives Nearfolk only the contact you tap. It is saved on this iPhone and nowhere else.
How does drifting work?
Each person has a rhythm, such as monthly. When the time since your last talk passes that rhythm they move to Drifting, and past twice the rhythm to Far. Any logged moment pulls them back to Near.
Why only three people a day?
Long overdue lists make people give up, while three small suggestions are doable. Not now simply waits until tomorrow.
Why am I not getting reminders?
Open Me, then Notifications, and check that the daily nudge or birthdays are on. Then open iOS Settings and make sure notifications are allowed for Nearfolk. The daily nudge only appears when someone is drifting and never during quiet hours from 22:00 to 08:00.
How do cards work without an account?
The card content is written into the link. Your friend opens it in any browser, sees the card, and can send one back or make their own in seconds.
I changed phones. How do I get Plus back?
Sign in with the same Apple ID and tap Restore on the Plus screen or in Me, then Subscription. Your people list lives on the old phone, so export it as JSON first from Me, then Export my data.
How do I cancel or manage Plus?
Plus belongs to your Apple ID. Manage or cancel it in iOS Settings, then your Apple ID, then Subscriptions. Me, then Subscription also has a Manage button and a link to request a refund from Apple.
How do I delete everything?
Me, then Delete all data removes every person, circle, note, date, reply and setting from this iPhone after you type DELETE. Subscriptions are managed by Apple in Settings.
What happens to my people if I go back to the free plan?
Nothing is deleted or hidden. Free keeps 10 people, one circle and three open replies visible and editable, and only adding more needs Plus.
